Brantford fall yard waste: 30 containers, paper bags and the December end date

Brantford lists weekly fall yard-waste collection from September 28 to December 4, 2026, with a maximum of 30 bags or containers. Each must weigh less than 25 kg. Put leaves in approved containers, not loose at the curb.

Turn a large autumn job into manageable loads

Before filling a row of yard-waste bags, separate the leaves from the branches and choose containers you can move comfortably. Brantford’s fall allowance is generous, but each item still has a weight and preparation rule. A little sorting now can save lifting the same material twice or discovering that a bag has torn at the curb.

The current rule answers a common newcomer question

A July 2026 local thread asked what to do with leaves, twigs and branches. Most replies said to use brown yard-waste bags on collection day. One commenter warned that wet bags could rip. Another described unlabelled containers being accepted, but that personal experience does not replace the city’s rule.

For this autumn, the city accepts kraft paper yard-waste bags or open rigid containers. Clearly mark rigid containers. Plastic bags and non-yard-waste items do not belong in the load.

Prepare the load so it can be collected

Keep each container under 25 kg and within the 30-container fall maximum. Do not pack a soaked bag until it is too heavy to lift safely. The set-out time is 7 am on collection day, with no earlier placement than 7 pm the evening before.

Brush must be tied and bundled within the listed limits, and branches must be under four inches in diameter. Rocks, soil, sod and large branches are not ordinary yard-waste collection. Sort those before filling a paper bag that a collector cannot empty.

If the pile is still there

Crews have until 5 pm to finish the scheduled day. The city says missed-collection reports are accepted the next morning. Check your set-out, material and container against the rules before reporting, then use the official issue route. Keep December 4 in your autumn plan rather than assuming winter pickup continues.

Weekly pickup solves a real job, but preparation still takes time

The May 2021 discussion about restoring weekly yard-waste pickup split between people who liked the convenience and people who preferred mulching or keeping bags another week. In August 2026, a resident with piles of cut branches made a different point: they knew the rules, but did not want to spend the time bundling everything. That distinction matters. Knowing the collection service exists is not the same as being able to do the physical preparation.

For a manageable autumn job, separate loose leaves from branches before filling containers. You can then choose whether the leaves fit the accepted bags or rigid bins, and whether the brush meets the bundling rules. If the work needs outside help, agree what will actually be removed and where it will go. A private offer in an old thread is not a current service booking, price or assurance that large material qualifies for curbside collection.

Use the fall allowance without making bags too heavy

The fall maximum of 30 bags or containers is larger than the spring and summer limit, but the weight rule still applies to each item. Spread the job across manageable containers rather than trying to fit dense wet material into a few heavy bags. The July 2026 detritus thread warned about wet paper bags tearing. The city also accepts clearly marked open rigid containers, which may suit a household that repeatedly handles damp garden material.

For brush, measure the pieces and bundle dimensions against the current instructions before setting them out. Rocks, dirt, sod and large branches are not ordinary accepted yard waste. Put the prepared material out by 7 am on the collection day, with the previous-evening limit in mind. Then leave crews until 5 pm before treating it as missed. Keeping that sequence on the calendar can save a second weekend spent moving the same pile around the driveway.
